What the Most Successful People Do Before Breakfast?

Laura Vanderkam's book "What the Most Successful People Do Before Breakfast" is a must read for who dream to wake up early every day and pass their day in an efficient and an effective way.

According to the National Sleep Foundation's 2011 Sleep in America poll, the average 30-45 year old claims he/she gets out of bed at 5:59 on a typical weekday morning, with 46-64 years olds rousting themselves at 5:57. Yet many people don't start work until 08:00 or 09:00 am.

Successful people have priorities they want to tackle, or things they like to do with their lives, and early mornings are the time when they have the most control of their schedules.

New research into that old-fashioned concept of willpower is showing that tasks that require self discipline are simply easier to do while the day is young. People who are serious about exercise do it in the mornings. Diets are broken in the evening, not the morning.

The best morning rituals are activities that don't have to happen and certainly don't have to happen at a specific hour. These are activities that, when practiced regularly, result in long-term benefits.

A good weekend needs a plan, there are sixty hours between the moment you crack open a beer at 6:00 p.m. Friday and the time the alarm goes off at 6:00 a.m. Monday. Plan something fun for Sunday nights and plan the week ahead. This idea may be the most important tip in this book.

Agile Middle East Dubai

You can find the summary of my presentation "An Enterprise Agile Transformation Story: Turkey Finans" on slideshare.net, the link is below.

The congress was a great opportunity to meet valuable international agile practitioners. The attention to the agile transformation in Turkiye Finans and to my session was great. I even heard some attendees talking about our case and experience before my presentation, which showed how important was our job.

As a result of the congress, I became sure that the agile transformation of our bank was the largest one not only in our country, but also between East Europe and Middle East regions, that made me proud for our team and management.

Also, it was the first time I visited Dubai. It was fun to have chance to swim in April (when it was very cold and rainy in İstanbul), to see the development of the country in such a short time and to taste world cuisine.

I again thank to Agile ME committe for inviting me to the congress.

5BX (or When the Spring Comes)

As I reach my late 30s, although I have been going to a fitness center for 3 years, I have started to face with weigth problems. This is also because I come home late from office and eat dinner after that.

To fix this, I quit eating at home. Instead, I snack at the office with fruits, yoğurt and green vegetables. Also, I monitor my calories and acitivities from my iphone by using an application (fitwell).

Finally, I started 5BX, a training I saw in GQ magazine by Tony Parsons.

5BX is a training that had been used by Canadian Royal Air Forces, between 1950s and 2000s. Since, the snowy climate was not suitable, the soldiers had done this training in their indoor bases without using any equipment. This exercise have been popular also in the US and UK.

In summary, without giving any break, you do 5 sets of exercises by using your body weight, in maximum 11 minutes. There are 6 degrees and 12 steps in each degree. You go to the next step after you practice everyday the current step.

Since the training is 10 minutes you have no excuses related to lack of time.

I liked it very much and advise you to begin before summer comes. Below, you may see the related book, description and video.
